Valentines Dinner

Posted by brother benny

Several weeks ago we made our Valentines dinner reservation at the Spinnerstown Hotel.  This is the site of my BJCP classes, I’ve really been impressed with the place, the owner and the staff so it was an easy pick.

We were not disappointed at all.  Understandably they were very busy, but we were greeted and seated in minutes, our waitress (Heather) was very attentive but not hovering.  The special menu for the day was wonderful.

We shared an appetizer of broiled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with shavings of a really good parmesan cheese.

To start with our appetizers my wife had a Leffe Blonde and I had the Manayunk Brewhouse Title Bout Stout.  The Title Bout Stout is a good oatmeal stout, toasty and roasty, not bitter at all (from the grain), from beginning to end a very nice beer.

For dinner, she had an Asian Sweet and Spicy Ahi Tuna, the rice was a pineapple and wasabi flavor, the tuna was just beyond rare toward medium rare, but not bad, the stir fried veggies were very good, (normally a huge letdown as most kitchens will overcook them and they come out like mush). For desert she had chocolate covered strawberries. Her dinner and dessert pairing was Saison DuPont, a great match.

My main course was a prime rib (with more asparagus, what was I thinking?) garlic mashed potatoes.  The rib was just a little more done than my requested medium rare, but it was very good, excellent flavor and quite moist, very enjoyable.  For desert I ordered a twist on my favorite desert (my favorite is Cremé Brulé) my desert was Godiva Chocolate Cremé Brulé, this was probably one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, exceptionally well done.  With my main course and nursed into my desert i had Dieu du Ciel Péché Mortel.  This too is one of my all time favorite beers and as it turns out an out of this world pairing with the dessert.

Many thanks to the folks at Spinnerstown Hotel for a wonderful evening, and fantastic food.  If you are anywhere near Quakertown, PA this is a great place to go, very close to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension, within 2 miles of the exit for Quakertown.
